Lavandula, more commonly known as lavender, is a perennial shrub. Steam distillation retrieves the oils from the flowers of certain species of the plant. Two types of Lavender Oils are produced. The most commercially prominent oil is obtained from lavender growing in the Himalaya Mountain foothills.


Lavandula Essential Oil Indications/Uses  

Lavandula Essential Oil has a calming, soothing effect that promotes mental and emotional bell-being. It helps combat stress, relieves headaches and eases anxiety. This oil has a positive effect on the autonomic nervous system.  It is also known for its ability to induce restful sleep. As such, it is used to combat insomnia.

Having antiseptic properties, this essential oil helps prevent infections developing in wounds, burns and sores.  It is helpful in the treatment of acne, psoriasis and other skin conditions, and also acts to reduce pain stemming from various sources, including sore muscles and joints, back ache and post operative pain.

Lavandula Essential Oil helps promote urine flow and promotes hormonal balance. Lavandula Oil should never be ingested. Serious health complications can occur. Some individuals may develop skin irritation or have allergic reactions to the oil. Persons with diabetes are advised to avoid using this product.

Pregnant women are advised to avoid this essential oil. Nursing mothers should avoid this oil as well.
