Anise Oil Origin and Extraction

Anise Oil is derived from the anise herb. The oils are obtained from the steam distillation of the plant’s dried fruits. Anise oil has been used medicinally in ancient Greece, Rome and Egypt. It grows in North America, North Africa, South Asia and Europe.

Anise Essential Oil Indications/Uses

Anise Essential Oil is useful for relief of muscular aches and pains, rheumatism, indigestion, asthma and bronchitis.  It is also used to promote cardiovascular and digestive help, as well as acting as an insecticide. It may help rid the intestine of worms and other parasites, and may act as a deterrent to head lice, scabies and other insect pests.

Anise Oil can be used both as a sedative and as a stimulant.

Anise Oil Contra Indications

A potent oil, Anise Essential Oil may cause dermatitis in individuals who are sensitive to it or allergic reactions in some. Large dosages may cause cerebral congestion and have a slowing effect on circulation.  Anise oil should not be used for conditions which are adversely affected by estrogen.

This essential oil is inadvisable for use by pregnant women and only small doses are recommended for children.

Essential Oils are natural, contracted oils that have the fragrance of the plant from which they originated. Most typically, the oils are extracted from the plant through distillation. In many cases, the distillation process involves the use of steam.  As steam passes through the plant’s stems, seeds, flowers or leaves, it assists in vaporizing the volatile compounds.

While essential oils have various uses, they have a long documented history of medicinal value. Essential Oils can support overall health, act as a treatment or remedy for various medical or psychological conditions or help prevent infections and illness.

Essential Oils should not be used on animals as they can have adverse effects.
