Bergamot Oil Origin and Extraction
Bergamot Oil is derived from rind of the fruit of the citrus bergamia tree. The rind can be green (unripe) or yellow (ripe). The tree is native to South East Asia. It is also grown in countries including Ivory Coast, Morocco, Tunisia and Algeria.
Bergamot Oil Essential Oil Indications/Uses
Bergamot Oil is used topically to treat skin conditions including tumours caused by fungal infections.
Other health benefits of Bergamot Oil include its use in the healing of wounds, its antiseptic properties, its deodorant properties, its use as a sedative, analgesic and antidepressant, its ability to help form scar tissue, its ability to help dispel parasites and worms and its aid to digestion.
Bergamot Oil Contra Indications
Bergamot Oil should be stored in a dark place. If applied topically, the skin should not be exposed to sunlight, as Bergamot can become toxic when exposed to sunshine. Prolonged topical exposure may cause skin damage and increase the risk of skin cancer.
Bergamot oil may be contraindicated for pregnant women, children and diabetics. Since it may act to lower blood sugar, it should be discontinued two weeks prior to scheduled surgery.
Essential Oils are natural, contracted oils that have the fragrance of the plant from which they originated. Most typically, the oils are extracted from the plant through distillation. In many cases, the distillation process involves the use of steam. As steam passes through the plant’s stems, seeds, flowers or leaves, it assists in vaporizing the volatile compounds.
While essential oils have various uses, they have a long documented history of medicinal value. Essential Oils can support overall health, act as a treatment or remedy for various medical or psychological conditions or help prevent infections and illness.
Essential Oils should not be used on animals as they can have adverse effects.
