Oregano Essential Oil Origin and Extraction

Oregano Essential Oil comes from the leaves and flowers of oregano, a perennial herb. A process of distilling is used to extract the oil. There are several species of oregano, but not all have therapeutic value. The best medicinal choices are from the species known as Origanum vulgare and Thymus capitatus. A member of the mint family, Oregano is native to Europe but grows elsewhere as well.

Oregano Oil’s optimal property may be its use as an antioxidant. As such, it acts to prevent the formation of free radicals and helps repair the damage done by free radicals. Oil of Oregano Essential Oil Contra Indications

Oregano Essential Oil should not be used undiluted. Test for sensitivities prior to use and avoid using on open wounds or sores.

Oregano Oil is intended for short term use only.

Some individuals may experience stomach upset from using Oregano Oil. Allergic reactions may develop in persons with allergies to other members of the mint family (mint, lavender, sage and basil).

Pregnant women and nursing mothers are advised to avoid using Oregano Essential Oil.
