Thyme Essential Oil Origin and Extraction

Thyme Essential Oil is extracted from the leaves and flowers of the thyme herb, using the process of steam distillation. Thyme is a perennial and grows best in hot climates with bright sun. It is native to Europe, with France, Spain and Morocco being the primary producers today. The plant’s botanical name is Thymus vulgaris.

Thyme Essential Oil Indications/Uses  

Thyme Oil has powerful antiseptic and antibacterial qualities, making it an excellent choice for preventing and treating bacterial infections and ailments. Some studies show it may be an effective as well as cost-effective weapon to combat superbugs, including MRSA (methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureu).  MRSA is resistant to many antibiotics.

Thyme Oil should not be consumed internally. Side effects of internal use can include dizziness, nausea, lowered body temperature and damage to the heart and lungs.

Thyme Essential Oil should be avoided by persons with high blood pressure and hyperthyroidism. Pregnant women should avoid this oil as it induces menstrual flow. Do not administer it to children or animals.
